Peter A. Neumann is a U.S.-qualified lawyer, independent international arbitrator, and cross-border dispute resolution practitioner with more than 25 years of experience advising on complex international business matters across Greater China, the Asia-Pacific region, and the United States. He is admitted to practice in California and serves as a Foreign Legal Consultant (Registered Foreign Lawyer) at Robertsons.

Peter focuses on international arbitration, cross-border disputes, and strategic dispute management involving China-related and Asia-based transactions. He has been appointed as sole, presiding, and co-arbitrator in approximately 50 arbitrations administered under the rules of institutions including the AAA/ICDR, CIETAC, SCIA, FINRA, and ACMAS.

A distinguishing feature of Peter’s practice is his deep China and Mandarin Chinese capability. Fluent and literate in Mandarin Chinese at a professional level, he has conducted arbitral proceedings entirely in Chinese, including evidentiary hearings and award drafting. Having lived and worked extensively in Mainland China and Hong Kong for more than two decades, Peter brings substantial practical experience navigating the legal, commercial, and cultural dimensions of cross-border disputes involving Chinese enterprises, multinational corporations, and international investors.

Prior to focusing on his arbitrator and dispute resolution practice, Peter held senior legal and management positions at leading international law firms and multinational corporations in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Los Angeles. His previous roles include Asia Pacific General Counsel and Vice President of a NYSE-listed multinational corporation, Managing Shareholder of the Shanghai office of an international law firm, Executive Partner of a major international law firm’s Shanghai office, and Deputy General Counsel – Asia for a global alternative investment management firm.

Peter is also Adjunct Professor of Law at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, where he teaches international commercial arbitration. He is a frequent speaker and author on international arbitration topics, particularly those involving China, cross-border dispute resolution, and comparative arbitration practice.
