Michael Lintern-Smith featured in “Seeking and Finding: Footprints of the Rule of Law – Testimonies of Past and Present Presidents of The Law Society of Hong Kong”

Robertsons is delighted to share that our Consultant, Michael Lintern-Smith, is among the interviewees featured in the publication 《尋尋覓覓，法治足跡 — 邁向回歸三十載：香港律師會會長訪談》 (Seeking and Finding: Footprints of the Rule of Law – Testimonies of Past and Present Presidents of The Law Society of Hong Kong) newly launched on 16th July 2026.

Co-edited by The Law Society of Hong Kong’s Past President Ms Melissa Pang, BBS, MH, JP, and former Secretary General Ms Heidi Chu, the publication brings together interviews with fifteen Past and Present Presidents of the Law Society since the establishment of HKSAR, recording their reflections, experiences and aspirations.

Michael served as President of The Law Society from 2004 to 2005 and remains the only non-Chinese President since 1997. The book reflects Michaels’ legal journey, from leaving Paris to Hong Kong, to joining The Law Society as a Council member while managing Robertsons. Among the milestones discussed during his 23 years of service at The Law Society are his role in leading the profession through a pivotal collective decision regarding professional indemnity arrangements, and his pioneering efforts in promoting Risk Management Education within the profession. The interview also offers a personal perspective, sharing how Michael, with a legal career spanning more than four decades across borders and generations, has witnessed Hong Kong’s transformation from a British colony to an international metropolis, and how the legal profession has continued to uphold its core principles and adapt to new opportunities amid change.
