Michael Lintern-Smith admitted to Roll of Honour

Apr 22, 2020

The Law Society of Hong Kong has announced that our Senior Partner, Michael Lintern-Smith has been admitted to its Roll of Honour in recognition of his services to the legal profession and the practice of law in Hong Kong.

In a letter to the membership of the Law Society, the current President stated as follows:-

Mr. Lintern-Smith was admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales in 1981 and then as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1982. He has served on our Council for more than two decades from December 1995 to May 2018 during which time he was Vice President from May 2002 to May 2004 and President from May 2004 to May 2005. Mr. Lintern-Smith has served on many Law Society Committees over the years including chairing the Standing Committee on Standards and Development, the Standing Committee on Policy and Resources, the LegCo Liaison Group, the Working Party on Solicitors' Accounts Rules and the Working Party on Chambers Practice and serving as member of the Guidance Committee, the Consents Committee and the Working Party on Limited Liability Partnerships and others. He has been chairing the Anti-Money Laundering Committee since 2004, a committee with very heavy workload dealing with the impact of the FATF Recommendations and the legislative amendments to Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing (Financial Institutions) Ordinance on the Law Society's regulatory role.

Appointment to the Roll of Honour is a rare achievement and there are fewer than fifty appointees the list in the history of the Law Society of Hong Kong.
